Tonight’s post is jam-packed with all kinds of amazing crap. Also new graphics and new fonts.

Top o’ the mornin’ to you … from Howdygram headquarters! It’s a few minutes after 11 a.m. on a bright and sunshiney Wednesday. My hospice C.N.A. — translation: certified nurse’s assistant — was here more than an hour ago to give me a bath, and Sam is presently headed to Wal-Mart to buy things, some of which include baby carrots, a bag of chopped-up salad materials and a box of Tropical Fruit Popsicles.

Wondering what’s been going on around here? Well, I had complete success weasling conning manipulating politely requesting A FANTASTIC CHINESE DINNER last night from China City in Garland. This included two appetizers (Tempura Tofu and Steamed Dumplings) and a thrilling entrée (Szechwan Tofu), plus a side order of hot chili sauce … because “spicy” is never spicy enough. Let that be a lesson to you! In addition, OUR MAID will be here this afternoon around 1 p.m. to clean the house, and I’m sure you’ll be pleased to know that A PODIATRIST FROM DR. HAYES’ OFFICE is coming on Thursday for my quarterly checkup and routine diabetic toenail maintenance for senior citizens. (Routine toenail maintenance is very important.)

I just read a wonderful in-depth article about FONT CREATION by a very knowledgeable designer at Creative Market. To tell you the truth, it made me feel wistful, remembering Fontographer, a delightful and challenging Macintosh program “back in the day” (it was first released in 1986) that helped me create my own PostScript fonts. There certainly weren’t many fonts to choose from at that point, so aspiring designers like yours truly spent hours trying to combine Times and Helvetica into a Timesvetica bastard. (I hope you don’t think I’m kidding.)

Other points of interest for the remainder of my week will include LEFTOVER CHINESE FOOD for dinner tonight, ANOTHER BATHING SESSION with my hospice C.N.A. on Friday morning, and a potential visit from the THE HOSPICE SOCIAL WORKER, Theresa, who emailed Sam this afternoon … she wants to meet with us about “a couple of resources.” We have no idea what she’s referring to — or when she wants to get together — but we always get a kick out of Theresa … so why not?

I think that’s it for now, people … you’ve got my entire week in review. Woo-hoo!

Hey, I’ve got a few more FREE FONTS for you tonight ... a little of everything, from pleasant scripts (“Anisha” and “Henley”) to a quirky sans serif (“Octagen Condensed”) to a nice retro typewriter knockoff (“Typewriter Revo”). Download links will appear below the graphic in case you want any or all of these for your personal stash. You’re thoroughly welcome.

I snagged some fabulous freebies on Monday from Creative Market. They were giving away a collection of fresh and bright watercolor floral patterns … seamless, too, so you can copy-and-paste them in every direction, and they’re even on transparent backgrounds! I’ll be glad to send you the files via email if you’re interested, okay?

Just in case you’re not sure what a “transparent background” is, here are three examples for your possible interest ... illustrating the same floral pattern on three different colors: 20% pale apricot, 100% black and 35% candy pink. Got it?

Sam is conked out on the sofa tonight. During the last couple of hours he managed to sleep through one of the worst movies ever made … schlockmeister Roger Corman’s Creature from the Haunted Sea (1961), featuring a cast of unknowns (thank God they all remained that way) pretending to be Cubans and an American secret agent — the American with a marked resemblance to Humphrey Bogart in 1944’s To Have and Have Not — all pursued by the most ridiculous sea monster you’ve ever seen. I’m guessing Roger Corman wanted the audience to picture seaweed, but in black-and-white all you can think of is a miserable old shag rug and a couple of soft-boiled eggs!

As soon as the movie ended I grabbed the remote and turned off the goddamn TV. It’s 10:15 p.m. right now, and I’m hoping for the next couple of hours (at least!) I’ll be able to sit at my computer workstation and type without any further disturbance whatsoever … unless somebody wants to stop by with a pair of Popsicles or a plate of cheese and crackers. (Or both.)

Before I started writing today’s post I spent some time uploading several new birthday card designs for The Howdygram Store … and a few samples of the aforementioned new designs appear below, all with the same general theme: GETTING OLD.

Incidentally, quite a few of my greeting cards are grouped into various “themes” in my online store … Birthday Cards, Everyday Cards (get-well, friendship, romance, etc.), Holiday Cards, “Deep Thoughts,” “Founding Fathers,” “Wild West Icons,” “Tranquility,” “Me and the Cat,” “Screwy Cattle,” “Pin-Up Girls,” “Tough Baby Owl” and “Keep Calm.”

Know what? You should set aside an hour or two, browse through each of these categories and plan to spend a little dough. Zazzle reduces their greeting cards all the time. As a matter of fact, they’re just finishing up a week at 60% off, and I designed and ordered our own Hanukkah cards a couple of days ago. (I don’t spend full price, either!)

By now maybe you’ve noticed a few minor design “tweaks” … such as NEW BLACK SUBHEADS and a NEON BLUE FONT LIST in Marcy’s Parade of Fonts. Really terrific, no? Every once in a while I get an overwhelming urge to try something different, even if most of my readers would think they’re insignificant. I’m also experimenting with NEON BLUE SIDEBAR GRAPHICS. Woo-hoo!

Tonight I decided to switch the Howdygram’s sidebar title graphics from neon red to neon blue. Ooh!

It’s getting late, which means it’s probably a good time to shut down my computer for the night and start thinking about SNACKS AND POPSICLES. And not just because it’s late, but also because I’m awfully hungry! So … thank you for reading this, thank you for putting up with me, and let’s consider a Hanukkah party this year at the Alamo. (Or then again, maybe NOT.)
