I’m launching a new line of custom iPhone cases for The Howdygram Store.

Yo. It’s 3:15 Sunday morning, Sam is in the study with a large pot of coffee, and I’m struggling through the bloody Russian Revolution with Nicholas and Alexandra (1971) starring Michael Jayston and Janet Susman. Mostly I love the parts with Rasputin because he’s such an obnoxious pig. However, if you really want to see a blistering screen portrayal of Rasputin you should check out Rasputin and the Empress (1932) starring Lionel Barrymore as the “mad monk,” Ethel Barrymore as the Czarina Alexandra and Ralph Morgan as the Czar. Lionel’s performance is absolutely brilliant, hysterically theatrical and over-the-top.

Michael Jayston and Janet Susman in “Nicholas and Alexandra.”

In both movies, though, Rasputin’s death is absolutely incredible. Everybody hated that miserable asshole and employed a wide variety of creative methods to murder him until he was dead … including poison cupcakes, stabbing, pistols, and beating him to death with chains. Rasputin’s demise was actually more colorful in Rasputin and the Empress, in which Lionel Barrymore is also strangled, clubbed, shoved into an enormous fireplace, beaten with a fireplace poker, dragged outside in sub-zero weather and drowned in a half-frozen pond. THIS IS EXTREMELY GREAT STUFF. Treat yourself sometime, okay?

Want to know what’s on the agenda today at Howdygram headquarters? Our hospice social worker — the sweetie-pie Theresa — will be here at 11 a.m. for her monthly “house call.” She just wants to make sure we’re coping with everything that’s going on in our lives, is there anything we need, and so on. It’s always a very pleasant visit. We have a monthly visit from the hospice chaplain, too, although he speaks only with Sam, by our choice, and not with me. I guess I just don’t have anything to say to a chaplain. (No … his name isn’t “Charlie.”)

Please allow me to introduce today’s little gaggle of FREE FONTS. There are only four, but that’s because, quite honestly, I already have so many that it’s hard to get excited about them any more. At this point in my “collecting” career a font needs something really unique to grab my attention … and these are sufficiently unique to land in that category! I’ll include download links after the graphic in case you want any of these fonts for your personal stash. Thank you.

I think I’ll wrap this up early today so I can get on with another pressing project ... Sam needs a custom-designed case for his new iPhone. And this also launches an opportunity to design a new collection of cases for The Howdygram Store! I’ll show off a few of my creations in upcoming posts, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, thank you for reading this and please think about the Alamo for a couple of minutes if you don’t have anything better to do this afternoon.
