At 3:45 a.m. this morning I ordered ritzy progressive trifocals with very adorable frames.

Happy high noon from Howdygram headquarters! The last 24 hours have been surprisingly eventful around here, as evidenced by the following …

MOBILE VISION, THE GRAND FINALE. On Monday morning Sam canceled my order with the annoying deadbeats at Mobile Vision for the extra pair of progressive trifocals they were supposed to make for me. They had forgotten about them for a whole goddamn month. We asked for a refund of our $342 and a copy of my prescription via email. By 3 p.m. I had received BOTH.

MY LATEST GUTI (goddamn urinary tract infection) is making me feel like crap with an intermittent low-grade fever, intermittent severe burning and intermittent “mystery shit” in my catheter tube. I’m on another new antibiotic today. Mazel tov.

Barely five minutes after I sat up on the side of my hospital bed Monday afternoon — the first time in three days I was ready to be creative at my computer workstation — our entire neighborhood had a MAJOR POWER BLACKOUT …  as far north as the Jack-in-the-Box on the I-30 service road! I zoned out for about half an hour staring into space, gave up, stretched out on the bed for a little while, and when power was finally restored I decided to sit up again and eat beet borscht. It was not a productive day for creative projects.

At 3:45 a.m. this morning I ordered RITZY PROGRESSIVE TRIFOCALS with very adorable frames for only $108.95 from EyeBuyDirect.com … which is 70% less than what I originally paid Mobile Vision! They’re oversized, matte back, and include lenses with UV protection and anti-glare coating.

“Central” oversized matte black frame from EyeBuyDirect.com. Only $9.

To tell you the truth, I really didn’t need “UV protection” because I’m a housebound coot who hasn’t set foot outside for at least seven years, but the “anti-glare coating” is a virtual necessity if you stare at a MacBook all day writing Howdygram posts. (This is a moot point, though. Both features are part of the same bundle.) My new glasses will be here in about five days. Stay tuned!

I HAVE TO FIND NEW HEALTH INSURANCE FOR 2019 because today in the mail I found out that my Scott & White Medicare Advantage Plan HMO is being discontinued at the end of the year. When open enrollment begins on October 15 I’ll have to make some phone calls and ask some questions. Fortunately, I don’t have to make a very big hoo-hah about any of this, because all of my medical care — and nearly all of my meds — are covered 100% through Medicare directly to Accord Hospice. Therefore, my only real concern is to find a Medicare Advantage Plan with $0 monthly premium and Part D prescription drug coverage that lists insulin (the only meds NOT covered by my hospice) in an affordable formulary tier. So whoever has the cheapest insulin gets my business!

You may find it interesting that I don’t eat much any more … maybe once a day if I remember. For instance, it’s presently 5:57 p.m. and I haven’t eaten anything today except four sugar-free Popsicles. Zero calories. In a couple of minutes, however, I think I’ll wake Sam and ask for a real dinner for a change. Tonight I want Wal-Mart’s store brand fish fillets with tartar sauce and a few steak fries. Sounds great, doesn’t it? FISH! TARTAR SAUCE! STEAK FRIES! Woo-hoo!

I think I need a nice long nap now, so thank you for reading this, hold the noise down and shut the hell up about the Alamo already.
