I’ve got almost no understanding of Facebook whatsoever.

SATURDAY, 8:00 A.M., 4/21/2018. Good morning, everybody! It’s a few measly minutes after 8 a.m., and Sam and I are waiting for a 100% chance of rain to roll in — with thunderboomers! — from the northwest. I really haven’t got too much else going on today, quite honestly. A chance of rain … and then nothing.

Where Sam is concerned, when he gets out of the shower he’s already announced that he’s NOT going to Costco today (it’s Saturday … who can blame him?) but he’ll go for a long, scenic walk instead at Samuell Park on the south side of Mesquite if it hasn’t started raining yet.

Ah, Saturdays ...

SUNDAY, 12:46 A.M., 4/22/2018. Following a long day doing zilch — not counting a lot of pishing and several extended naps — Sam and I are presently glued to the TV watching Billy Elliott (2000) starring Jamie Bell and Julie Walters. We love this movie! Just in case you’ve never seen it, beware … the last five minutes are worth sitting through the first 90. (It’s a Brit film and the accents are almost impossible to understand.)

Jamie Bell and Julie Walters in “Billy Elliott.”

SUNDAY, 9:45 A.M. One of the big downsides to not being able to shlep myself into the study for six weeks — aside from missing my desk, my iMac and my Adobe software — was not being able to write comments or upload photos on Facebook from my laptop. I suspect it was a login problem, but since I’ve got almost no understanding of Facebook whatsoever I was at a loss to correct it. As a result I missed some key opportunities to post holiday graphics (Easter, I think) or, more importantly, acknowledge Siblings Day. My sister posted an adorable photo of us (I was four, she was two) but I couldn’t reciprocate. I’ll have to do better next year!

For your possible interest, I’m not in the study today and I wasn’t in the study yesterday, either. It’s still an unbelievable amount of effort to walk more than just a few feet at a time, and I’ve been aching a little from the exercises that the physical therapist gave me on Friday. However, I’ve decided that I’ll get back into the study tomorrow FOR SURE because I want to design a bunch of new mugs and greeting cards for The Howdygram Store. Do you think I’m too late for Mother’s Day?

SUNDAY, 10:35 A.M. Sam is on his way to Costco. Today’s list includes a box of frozen charcoal-grilled Angus hamburger patties, tempura shrimp, teriyaki meatballs, a bag of 24 peeled hard-boiled eggs, and (best of all) a ROTISSERIE CHICKEN. All of these items represent the bulk of our weekly protein requirements. Sam does all the meal preparation here at Howdygram headquarters, and Costco makes it easy for him. As an example, for lunch today I want that adorable rotisserie chicken!

Always tasty, always perfect, always adorable ... The Costco rotisserie chicken.

I’d like to kvetch for a few minutes, okay? At present there are four issues going on and I won’t be able to relax until I throw the burden at YOU for a while.
  • ITCH DIFFICULTIES. For the last few hours I’ve been driving Sam nuts with panicky requests to scratch various things for me. Mostly it’s my back.
  • SEVERE TOE PAIN. I can’t sit for more than five minutes without having to shift my weight, move my foot, adjust my slipper, lift my toe off the ground so it’s not touching anything, and so on. The last time he was here my podiatrist told me I’ve got a DEFORMED TOE resulting from a misplaced bone, which  leaves me with an ingrown nail and a monstrous corn … and the only thing that could ever make all this shit go away is SURGERY. Trust me, that’s absolutely never going to happen … so I’ll have to be satisfied with whining.
  • DRIPPY EYEBALLS. For the last few days my eyes have been watering almost nonstop. I’m guessing it’s a spring pollen allergy of one kind or another, but it’s driving me nuts already and I might have to install teeny windshield wipers on my trifocals.
  • MY ELUSIVE LOWER DENTURE. You probably already know that my final dental escapade began at the first of the year when Elite Mobile Dental showed up to extract my last seven teeth and take impressions for a lower denture. After a few “false starts” and two hospitalizations … I’M STILL WAITING! Last Monday the dentist came over with a denture that had two critical flaws: 1) it didn’t fit; and 2) the teeth were the wrong color. It couldn’t have been worse than that. We’ll try again with another new denture on April 30 so please stay tuned and kindly keep your molars crossed.
Anyway, end of Kvetch Report. You’re a peach for putting up with me.

SUNDAY, 9:20 P.M. Sam and I are enjoying a pair of adorable Danny Kaye movies tonight on TCM … Wonder Man (1945) and A Song Is Born (1948). I think I’ll store both of these indefinitely on our DVR alongside our two other Danny Kaye movies, The Court Jester (1955), which is Sam’s personal favorite, and The Inspector General (1949). If you ever decide to come over we can watch them together. (Hint hint.)

Thank you for reading this.

And now I think I’ll answer a couple of emails and get myself ready for bed.
