I’d like to wish a happy 45th anniversary to my sister and brother-in-law, Robin and Ron.

Yo, everybody, and happy Sunday! Before I dive into a bunch of important, essential and occasionally stupid subjects, I would like to extend warmest wishes to Robin and Ron (my sister and brother-in-law) on their 45th wedding anniversary! That’s an awfully long time ago, but I remember it well due to being Robin’s maid-of-honor in a very yellow bridesmaid’s dress with poofy sleeves (typical 1970s) and sandals that gave me blisters. Other memories … the food was terrific, I got trampled during the bouquet toss, there was a very good orchestra and Robin looked adorable … except she was almost late for the noon-time ceremony. We finally found her in the hotel coffee shop with curlers in her hair eating cereal. (No kidding. True story.)
All that aside, Sam and I send our love to Robin and Ron on their special day. Robin is the bestest little sister I’ve ever had.

What a surprise … I just realized that I’ve been asleep more than I’ve been awake today! On the plus side, though, I’ve also had a chance to enjoy a few excellent movies in-between my naps. For instance … a cute British comedy/fantasy from 1947 called Miranda starring Glynis Johns (as a mermaid) and wonderful Margaret Rutherford, both pictured below. Just in case you’re interested, I always keep Miranda stored on our DVR along with the 1954 sequel, Mad About Men. (The sequel is actually better than the original.) Today I also watched Marlowe (1969), a private eye murder mystery starring James Garner, and Hud (1962), a gritty drama starring Paul Newman, Melvyn Douglas and Patricia Neal. We definitely enjoy a variety of entertainment around here, don’t we?

Our free home repairs — for damage from a couple of hailstorms earlier this year — are finally underway. Last week a crew was here to power-wash our cedar fence in the backyard and re-stain it. I thought I’d share a photo of the finished product for your possible interest. Sam is delighted that the new stain color is actually a closer match for the cedar arbor above our patio. Definitely a win-win!
Incidentally, the rest of our repairs, including a new roof, new solar screens, a new garage door, a new chimney and new rain gutters, haven’t been scheduled yet because inclement weather has pushed everything back a few days. Stay tuned. I know you can’t wait!

I’ve got an excellent collection of free fonts for you today … all kinds of interesting display fonts (“Bread and Honey,” “Carlos Jackson,” “Nuts and Bolts”), a traditional rounded sans serif (“Brilk”) and even a couple of dingbats fonts (“Royal Sigils,” “Lucky Sunshine). If you’re interested in “Melvis” please shoot me an email and I’ll send you the font files.

FYI, I absolutely LOVE the “Brilk” font family to piecees! This is a softish, easy-to-read typeface with rounded corners and a very tall X-height (the height of the lowercase characters). It’s actually similar to another font I already have (“Amsi”) with a few minor tweaks to some of the letterforms, such as the letters “K” and “k.” But I’m sure you don’t give a crap, right?

I’d like to show off part of last week’s weekly giveaway from Creative Market … a gorgeous collection of 60 watercolor floral arrangements, wreaths and sprays, plus 12 seamless patterns on transparent backgrounds so you can layer them on top of any color or texture you want.

The world’s crankiest cat — with a face that inspired countless memes, a best-selling series of books and even a hit motion picture — passed away last week at the age of seven. “Grumpy Cat,” owned by Tabatha Bundesen from Morristown, Arizona, shot to fame in a 2012 YouTube video that received 15.7 million views and earned more than Hollywood stars Nicole Kidman, Cameron Diaz and Matthew McConaughey during her time in the spotlight.

I’m serious. This stupid cat earned $100 million.
But even amassing a fortune wasn’t enough to drag a smile from the Internet sensation — real name “Tardar Sauce” — who was born with dwarfism and an underbite, giving her that perpetual frown.

Her family took to Instagram this morning to announce the news that Grumpy Cat died last Tuesday from a urinary tract infection, saying: “Some days are grumpier than others.”

Two days after Grumpy Cat’s first appearance on social media her owner was able to quit her job as a waitress and the phone “never stopped ringing.” At the time of her death Grumpy Cat had 2.4 million followers on Instagram.

This definitely proves that the world is fucking insane.

Before I sign off for the day and publish this post I’d like to share some swell news about The Howdygram Store. Apparently I’ve won another Editor’s Pick award, this time for the nautical mug design pictured below. My products are being advertised and promoted by Zazzle internationally now … I’m selling lots of mugs (mainly THIS one!) in Australia and New Zealand.

Winning an Editor’s Pick is a huge fucking deal for Zazzle designers like yours truly. There are thousands upon thousands of us, and when one of my products rises to the top it’s exciting and reassuring. This is my third Editor’s Pick since the end of April! (The other two were an iPhone case and a luggage tag.)

Thank you for reading this. At the moment I have no use for the Alamo whatsoever.
