Please feel free to remember the Alamo ... but don’t get too obnoxious about it, okay?

Happy Sunday, everybody! I’m pleased to announce that we survived yesterday’s eight-hour thunderstorm with no damage, no loss of power and no casualties. I think the most serious storms were reported about 100 miles south of the Dallas metro area, but thanks, anyway, for worrying about us.

Before I start rambling about other subjects I thought I’d share the following quartet of breathtaking photos. This is my sister’s youngest granddaughter, Hudson, three years old, at a salon in Chicago for her first professional haircut. Seriously, this teeny little tot has such an angelic expression on her face … are these four pictures good enough for a magazine layout, or what?!
My sister’s grandchildren are absolutely precious. She has four of them … Cooper, Hudson, Tyler and Addy. I download every photo I find on my nieces’ Facebook pages so I can keep them in an online album and enjoy their sweet little faces whenever I’m feeling isolated.*

Believe me, it’s easy to feel isolated. I’ve been housebound for an awfully long time (six or seven years) and completely bedridden since last May … and all my relatives and friends are at least 1,000 miles away from here!

I’ve got a nice crowd of free fonts for you tonight! They include a couple of quirky scripts (“Ghost Inline,” “Quickers”), a pair of all-caps traditional slab serif (“Cheddar”) and sans serif (“Recording Artist”) fonts, and a handful of hand-drawn display fonts (“Blueberry,” “Joie Walks,” “Syaquita,” “Lemonade”). You’ll find download links below the graphic in case you want any of these for your personal collection. You’re welcome and have a swell day.

In addition to free fonts, I also have some wonderful free clipart images and background textures to share with y’all. First, a sweet collection of 36 hand-painted spring birds, courtesy of the generous people at Creative Market. Second, two collections of seamless backgrounds — I love seamless backgrounds! — including 24 unique gold-veined marbles and 100 colorful cardstock textures. If you think you could use any of these design assets, please shoot me an email and I’ll be glad to send you the zip files.

Before I publish this post (at last!) I’d like to share an overview of the week ahead …

HOSPICE VISITORS. I’m expecting my C.N.A. (usually at 10:30 a.m.) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for bathing and general hygiene. On Wednesday she’ll also throw in a salon-quality shampoo, which I love! Also, today at 10:30 I’m expecting my L.V.N. Leslie for a routine weekly checkup, during which she monitors (and treats) my back and thighs for pressure sores and/or skin breakdown. It’s always something.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS. On Wednesday afternoon TCM will show one of the tackiest movies ever made: White Cargo (1942) starring Hedy Lamarr, Walter Pidgeon and Richard Carlson. It’s about three sweaty people on an African rubber plantation circa 1915, and Hedy Lamarr, who’s spray-painted from head to toe, plays a conniving native slut named Tondelayo. You have to see it to believe it. Trust me.
Sam and I have been waiting more than three years for TCM to air this movie again. Now our collection of “sleeping” movies and “keepers” is complete! Woo-hoo!

Thank you for reading this. If you feel like remembering the Alamo, please feel free to do so … but don’t get too obnoxious about it, okay?
