God bless narcotics.

Yes, friends, narcotics are a HUGE FUCKING SUCCESS around here. I had a deliriously pleasant, pain-free evening tonight with Sam, leftovers, a Danny Kaye movie and hydrocodone [see earlier post]. I’ll take my next dose about an hour from now and I can’t wait because this is the first time in almost five years I haven’t had to deal with nonstop crippling pain.

My left heel — which always feels like somebody’s blasting it with a blow torch due to diabetic peripheral neuropathy — has dropped on the Howdygram Pain Scale from a 10 to a 1, and the stabbing pain in my arthritic knees is down from a 10 to maybe a 4. This is such a big deal I almost can’t find words to express it, so I’ll just choose the first two that come to mind.

Holy shit.

I think you get my drift.

And now I think I’ll rejoin Sam in the family room and eat a bunch of crunchy things in bags. Thank you for reading this.
