I have a huge announcement: I just finished dinner.

I’m having a fidgety, uncomfortable and moderately miserable day today. At the moment my complaints include insane swings between burning hot feet and chills, body aches, crappy mentally ill skin (simultaneously fiery hot, ice cold, itchy and shitty … don’t ask!) all over my back, and — here’s the weird one — THE ROOF OF MY MOUTH IS ITCHY! According to WebMD that last one is probably from an allergy or a yeast infection. Since I already know I’ve got both, the cause is probably a toss-up. I’m a mess.

Sam and I have an impressive lineup of wonderful, unforgettable films to fill our time on a hot, sweaty, triple-digit Friday in north Texas. These are:
  • American Graffiti (1973) with Ron Howard, Cindy Williams
  • Ship Ahoy (1942) with Red Skelton, Eleanor Powell, Bert Lahr
  • Whistling in the Dark (1941) with Red Skelton, Ann Rutherford
  • I Dood It (1942) with Red Skelton, Eleanor Powell
  • Bathing Beauty (1944). with Red Skelton, Esther Williams, Basil Rathbone
  • Merton of the Movies (1947) with Red Skelton, Virginia O’Brien

In case you’re wondering how come we’re so top-heavy with Red Skelton movies all of a sudden, today was Red Skelton Day on TCM (they’re featuring a different star every day of the month in August). By the way, if you’d ever like to watch a groundbreaking dance number I highly recommend Eleanor Powell’s “western rope dance” in I Dood It. It’s a jaw-dropper, people. She leaps in and out of multiple twirling lariats and on and off tables until your head is ready to explode. (Don’t worry … the rest of the movie is really swell, too.)

It’s 10:53 p.m. and I have a huge announcement: I JUST FINISHED DINNER. I actually considered dinner long and hard for a couple of hours until I finally decided what I wanted to eat, woke Sam from his before-bedtime nap (he was on the sofa) and asked for food. Tonight’s requested meal included leftover frozen peas, a pre-grilled Angus hamburger patty from Costco — a seriously tasty slab of meat! — with a nice big glass of iced tea. A very tasty, very healthy, very satisfying meal … and I didn’t have to annoy Sam with lots of unexpected late-night kitchen labor.

In case you’re wondering, tomorrow I want Sam to make Bear Creek’s Darn Good Chili mix with a side order of cole slaw. It’s always a good idea to plan these things ahead of time.

I have a semi-interesting collection of free fonts for y’all today … a few scripts (“Srabi,” “Schnugguns”), hand-drawn fonts (“Friends and Aliens,” “Dhakuri”), a fun kid-centered layering font with a cool extruded background shadow (“Mister Froggie”), and a stunning serif display font (“Desire”) with hundreds of swashy things and alternate characters.

Oy, I just lost another whole day to unexpected sleep. This is getting monotonous already. I’d better publish this post and get on with a few other bedridden activities* before I pass out from boredom.

My activity-of-choice tonight involves ordering one or two new “design assets” from Etsy.com. Specifically, I’ve got my eye on the following collections of high-resolution background images … 100 Seamless Craft Paper Textures, 100 Shimmer Glitter Paper Textures and/or 16 Seamless Glitter Tinsel Rain Drop Curtain Overlays. They’re all giving me urgent shpilkies to design more exciting new greeting cards for The Howdygram Store!

Thank you for reading this. In case you’re interested, I just remembered the Alamo.
