Chinese has been my cuisine-of-choice for almost seven decades. Ask anybody.

A good and happy Tuesday to you and yours. It’s almost 10 p.m., and Sam and I just finished watching this week’s episode of the Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch.” Hard to believe this is already season 14. Yup, a whole 14 years of misery, frozen spray, broken bones, rogue waves and egomaniacal captains. Mostly I love the photography, though, which is goddamn impressive on a high definition TV.

Because last week was such a wash-out for me [read more about it here], I’m still trying to get myself stable and steady. The biggest issue, I guess, is probably dietary, as I have very little appetite or interest in food, and I’m having a difficult time swallowing and/or keeping food down. Today I mostly ate “safe” food … i.e., Jell-O cups and a Glucerna diabetic meal replacement shake. Around 8 p.m. I requested dinner … a package of Great Value Chicken Noodle Soup with a handful of seashell pasta thrown in. We always keep a little tub of cooked pasta (i.e., orzo, seashells, noodles) in the fridge. Tomorrow I’ll ask Sam to use up whatever’s left of the seashells to make chili mac for me with a container of Hormel Compleats Chili with Beans. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach, though. (Chili mac sounds great but might not be do-able.)

In case you’ve never tried Hormel Compleats, it’s a line of mostly-tasty, shelf-stable (needs no refrigeration) airline-sized entrées that you nuke in the microwave for 60 seconds. The only varieties I’d recommend wholeheartedly are: 1) Chili with Beans; 2) Chicken Breast with Mashed Potatoes; and 3) Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes. Of these three, only one could actually pass for homemade: the Chili with Beans. This is absolutely the best prepared chili on the market. Please buy it. Thank you.

And how … more free fonts! Tonight’s assortment includes six pleasant scripts (all with hundreds of fancy swirly things and alternate characters), a bunch of interesting, hand-drawn display fonts and a cute, crafty layering font. I think my favorites are “Run!” and “Robaga.” The requisite download links will appear after the graphic. You’re welcome.

I suppose you won’t be surprised to learn that I’m still bouncing back from last week’s “near miss,” an almost-four-day unconscious brouhaha [see post] during which I was fed water on a teeny sponge, liquid painkillers 24/7 by sweet hospice nurses, and no food whatsoever until I woke up on Sunday. On Sunday I asked for Chinese. (This has been my cuisine-of-choice for almost seven decades. You can ask anybody.)

It’s presently Wednesday night. Sam and I have been watching a variety of stupid movies — i.e., Swing Fever (1943) starring Kay Kyser, Ish Kabibble and Marilyn Maxwell — and drifting in and out of naps. I ate very little (maybe two mouthfuls) of chili mac for dinner tonight, so I decided to request something substantial for a bedtime snack. Therefore I woke Sam a few minutes ago and asked for frozen chicken egg rolls with the new sweet and spicy Thai chili sauce that arrived in our pantry a few days ago. I also want a couple of Jell-O cups for dessert with a teeny plastic spoon.

Thank you for reading this. It’s time for a Red Skelton movie.
