Holy shit, what a week we’ve had.
Sam’s four-day fever finally broke early Tuesday morning
— hallelujah! — allowing him to stand on his feet for more than 30 seconds without crumbling and even hold a brief conversation.
On Tuesday my day began at 10:30 with the sounds of Sam and Leticia (my hospice C.N.A.) whispering nearby. They were discussing our latest crisis: Sam had misplaced his car keys and was too weak (and didn’t have enough time) to find them before his 11 a.m. doctor’s appointment. Leticia stepped up and drove him to the clinic. (He found the keys after he got home.)
THE NIGHTMARE IS OVER. Sam is feeling better! The fever hasn’t come back, his cough is breaking up, and he received a steroid injection from the doctor in case his upper respiratory infection was bacterial instead of viral.
Woo-hoo!
Sam and I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday stuffed with food and family and extra pie. We’re not doing much of anything here at Howdygram headquarters … Sam is asleep on the sofa (still recuperating) and I’m dealing with an upset stomach again. (Still.) It’s not every girl who’s lucky enough to spend Thanksgiving with a bottle of Maalox and a Glucerna meal replacement shake for elderly diabetics!
