Please think some healing thoughts for Sam.

SUNDAY, 11/24/2019, 10:09 P.M. Yo, people. It’s a few minutes after 10 p.m. on Sunday night and Sam is still sick … DAY FOUR! He’s wrapped in a fleece blanket on the sofa and can barely stand up. I wish I knew what to do for him, poor baby. He’s been absolutely miserable. And when Sam is miserable, I’m miserable, too!

Thank God my hospice C.N.A. will be here tomorrow. I’ve been peeing all over myself since Friday morning and I’ve never needed a bath so badly in my entire life. Living without a catheter isn’t really “living” at all. It’s wretched. I’m spending the rest of my life on an adjustable hospital bed in the family room lying on absorbent padding, and therefore it’s my full-time responsibility to make sure that the angles of my head and feet are “just right” so my pee winds up on the padding and NOT dribbling in ten different directions like an insane freeway interchange. (A couple of hours ago one wayward stream of pee wound up in my left armpit. Don’t ask!)

No matter what’s going on in my life, I can take comfort in knowing there’s always room for a few more free fonts. So … I’ve got a nice variety of new freebies for you tonight! For the most part they’re all display fonts this time, meant to be used at larger point sizes (18 points and up) for greeting cards, signs, advertisements, posters, logos and so on. Three of these are even layered — I love layered fonts! — and two (“Miranda” and “Chains”) are from the Carolina Font Bundle, which contains more than 45 handwritten fonts … most of them ugly.

I’ll include download links under the font list. As a reminder, this is an excellent time to stock up on fonts for holiday giving and hostess gifts.

MONDAY, 11/25/2019, 11:35 P.M. Sam’s health has made a few temporary, yet miniscule improvements. For instance, he says he feels a little better even though his fever hasn’t budged from 101° and he’s still coughing. WTF? Sam has an emergency appointment to see his doctor again on Tuesday, hopefully for blood work and a prescription for another antibiotic … because the last antibiotic obviously didn’t work. At present Sam is asleep on the sofa.

I’d like to report some GOOD news for a change, okay? My hospice C.N.A., Leticia, did something very, very sweet for us today! She was here this morning to do my Monday bathing and hygiene session and noticed how weak and sick Sam was, so she offered to go to Wal-Mart for us to pick up a grocery order and bring it home. She saved our lives. This order was almost 90% for Sam and filled with food he specially requested, such as yogurt, hummus, baked beans, corn dogs, bagels and cream cheese, and so on. Leticia even helped Sam unload the bags and put everything away. WE LOVE HER TO PIECES!

In case you’re interested, here’s what happening around here this week.
  • Leticia is scheduled for BATHING AND HYGIENE SESSIONS around 10 a.m., Monday through Friday, henceforth and hereafter.
  • At 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday our FENCING CONTRACTOR will check out some poor workmanship when his employees repaired and restained the cedar privacy fence in our back yard a few weeks ago. Basically, Sam wants him to repair the repairs!
  • Thursday is THANKSGIVING, my favorite holiday. We won’t be celebrating this year, however, due to: 1) my taste buds are shot to hell and the only flavor profile I still enjoy is Szechwan hot and sour soup; 2) Sam is still very sick; 3) all of our clean dishes are in the dishwasher; and 4) there’s nothing here anybody would want to eat, anyway, aside from yogurt or Hormel meatloaf.
To be quite honest about this, however, in recent years our Thanksgiving dinner has been completely unconventional because we’re a family of two and don’t celebrate with friends or family (because we don’t have any) here in Texas. Therefore our “fake Thanksgiving” dinner in years past has been a one-pot meal consisting of Stove Top stuffing, Kirkland’s (Costco’s store brand) canned chicken and one jar of whole teeny mushrooms, all heated together in a gigantic mixing bowl. On top: Canned chicken gravy. On the side: Ocean Spray whole berry cranberry sauce. Then we’d position ourselves on the sofa to watch assorted Christmas movies, such as The Bishop’s Wife (1947) starring Loretta Young, Cary Grant and David Niven, and The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942) starring Bette Davis and Monty Woolley.

Unfortunately, it’s almost 2 a.m. and I desperately need food! This requires waking Sam from a deep sleep … and I really hate to do that. In the meantime, thank you for reading this and please think some healing thoughts for Sam.
