I’m sticking with Adobe Creative Cloud.

Happy Thursday, boys and girls. It’s 1:08 a.m., Sam is in bed, and I’ve decided to spend a little time with the Howdygram because I have some juicy nooz to share with y’all. Here we go …

I HAVE A NEW NURSE. On Monday Sam and I finally decided that we no longer had any confidence in Stella, the hospice R.N. who had been my regular nurse and case manager for the last seven months. After Stella blew off our “coordination of care” meeting last Friday without bothering to call, send a text or explain why, we asked the administrator to make a change for us … and wound up with a sweetie-pie named Martha instead, who was here yesterday (Wednesday) for my mid-week checkup. I like Martha! And she does something that Stella never did … she TAKES NOTES. I love a nurse who takes notes! It means she’s actually interested in what I’m saying and doesn’t trust her memory. Welcome to Team Marks!

MY FAVORITE LAMP DIED. It’s the big, beautiful, elegant and expensive-looking torchiere floor lamp in our family room that I bought six or seven years ago from Kirkland’s. I was absolutely heartbroken until I discovered yesterday that Kirkland’s still has the same excellent lamp (the “Lafayette Torchiere”) at the same excellent price ($99) on its website … SO I ORDERED IT ALL OVER AGAIN! This is an amazing, substantial piece of furniture … the glass “shade” is about 20 inches wide, the pole is three inches in diameter, and the heavy square base has an on/off switch on the floor that you can work with your big toe, providing you’re lucky enough to not be a bedridden invalid. FYI, I’ve seen comparable lamps at Macy’s and Lamps Plus for $350 or more.

FUCK QUARK XPRESS. On Saturday I briefly considered a switch [read post] from Adobe’s InDesign software to Quark XPress, but I’m not interested any more after I couldn’t get Quark’s free seven-day trial to load. Before I even had a chance to call Quark’s tech support on Monday morning to find out what the fuck is wrong with their software, a salesperson called me to find out if I was enjoying the free trial and could they sell me the whole package (on sale for $399). When she found out I couldn’t launch the software she transferred me to a support professional, who kept me on the phone for TWO FREAKIN’ HOURS walking me through hundreds of tedious “developer” steps to make sure the internal settings on my iMac were perfectly configured and with all the correct “permissions” in place. Even worse, every time we made another change she’d tell me to restart my Mac, which is a slow process all by itself. When we finally finished up she told me to click on the Quark XPress icon and open the application … BUT IT STILL WOULDN’T LAUNCH. At that point I told her I’m through, leave me alone and have a nice life. (But that still didn’t stop a salesperson from calling the next day. Greedy little vultures.) Therefore I’ll stick with Adobe’s products because they’re powerful, they run on my iMac with no problems whatsoever and they do everything I need them to do. The end.

I only have three FREE FONTS for you today but they’re all excellent and I know you’ll love them as much as I do. In case you’re interested, “Tierra Script” includes lots of swashy things (i.e., fancy underscores, swirly character tails) plus alternate characters. Download links will appear after the graphic. Enjoy!

I think it’s time to publish this post and move on to some afternoon creative projects. Today I want to finish up a few more new mug designs for The Howdygram Store and maybe create some new greeting cards.

Thank you for reading this. If you haven’t remembered the Alamo lately I promise not to tell anybody.
