Brent’s Deli in Northridge is the home of the hanging salamis. And they’ve got the best chopped liver on earth.

We’re having a wet and dismal Sunday morning at Howdygram headquarters, but I won’t complain about this for three excellent reasons: 1) we desperately need the rain; 2) I never leave the house, anyway, due to being a housebound senior citizen with mobility issues; and 3) I can’t think of anything else. At the moment there’s a line of thunderstorms rolling through here with a cold front. The high tomorrow will be 75° instead of 95°. Whoa!

Sam, of course, is still in California visiting his friends and family. Today’s activities include breakfast with his old pal Lloyd — currently in progress as I write this post — and dinner at Brent’s Deli in Northridge with a long list of relatives, proving once again that all of them love Sam and nobody EVER turns down a chance to eat at Brent’s. (They’ve got the best chopped liver on earth. Also tuna salad.)

One year after Blue Bell finally returned its ice cream to store shelves following a massive national recall for Listeria contamination, the brand is once again yanking “select products” due to “Listeria concerns.”
Texas health officials said Blue Bell Creameries was fined $850,000 as a penalty for last year’s Listeria incident. The outbreak sickened 10 consumers and was linked to three deaths.

Holy shit, Blue Bell ... get your act together! Figure it out already! American doesn’t need your stinking poisoned ice cream BECAUSE WE CAN EAT PUDDING OR JELL-O INSTEAD!

To take advantage of a 30% off sale on my favorite website — Zazzle — earlier tonight I created a couple of products for myself ... a 16" crossbody tote bag (details follow) and a small zipper wristlet that I’ll use as a combination clutch, wallet and iPhone case whenever I go out, which isn’t very often because I’m a housebound old coot with mobility issues. Mostly I’ll use it for doctor appointments. It’s the perfect size for a phone, a Medicare card, ten bucks and an I.D.
The crossbody tote I’ll use around the house to shlep assorted things from room to room, such as my TCM Now Playing monthly movie guide or a bag of Cheetos. It’s damn near impossible to do that now because I’ve got a cane in my right hand and tremors in my left hand, so I drop damn near EVERYTHING. Plus ... I usually need my left hand free to grab the back of a chair or a door jamb when I feel unsteady.

In case you’re interested, I designed the tote and zipper wristlet to match my iPhone 5S case! You can find these (and more) adorable products in The Howdygram Store. Please go shopping as soon as possible. Thank you.

Arnold Palmer, the “king” of golf, died today at 87 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He won more than 90 golf tournaments, including the Masters four times, the U.S. Open in 1960, and the British Open in 1961 and 1962. Palmer was the first golfer to earn $1 million; his estimated net worth at the time of his death was $675 million.
Arnold Palmer received virtually every national award in golf and was the “Athlete of the Decade” for the 1960s in a national Associated Press poll. He helped found the Golf Channel decades later and helped usher in the Champions Tour, where he won 10 times, including five majors.

He was also Johnny Carson’s favorite guest on “The Tonight Show” and a close personal friend of Bob Hope’s. I just doesn’t get much better than that, does it?
