I’ll bet you’re old enough for our senior discount!

Happy Wednesday morning to you and yours! It’s 12:03 a.m., Sam is conked out in the family room pretending to watch Rachel and the Stranger (1948) starring Loretta Young and William Holden, and I’m ensconced here in the study with all kinds of compelling news for you ... such as free fonts, new background graphics, a billion exciting senior discounts, our seven-day weather forecast, and — best of all — I’m ready to make FANCY DEVILED EGGS this afternoon! So let’s get started, shall we?

Yesterday afternoon I paid a visit to my favorite free graphics website — Freepik.com — and downloaded a pile of truly excellent images that I’ll use for greeting cards and other assorted products for The Howdygram Store. Pictured below are watercolor abstracts, bokeh lights, sparkling balloons, a colorful floral print, a white brick wall, natural wood and denim. I’m almost too late getting started on my Valentine’s Day card designs so that’s at the top of my agenda for the rest of the week. I definitely have to get better at this!

I’ve only got a short list today ... three nice fonts that you can use for who-the-hell-knows-what, but it doesn’t really matter because they’re all FREE. I like “Vattican” best of them all, and “Woodend,” with at least a million very unique alternate characters, is runner-up. You’ll find download links after the graphic.

Hang onto your canes, everybody, because there’s never been a better time to be an old fart! I provide as evidence the following list of SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNTS available at restaurants, drive-throughs and fast-food joints all over the United States. There’s only one catch, however: YOU HAVE TO ASK ... because nobody’s going to say, “Hey, I’ll bet you’re old enough for our senior discount!”

Back in the day — before mobility difficulties took over my life — Sam and I used to enjoy Saturday breakfast at Denny’s. They had a senior citizen menu with amazing deals such as Senior Scrambled Eggs with cheddar cheese (like a cheese omelet except it’s all mooshed together), pancakes, bacon and sausage for $4.50. Woo hoo! CHEAP EATS!

And now for a quick peek at the seven-day weather forecast here in Mesquite, courtesy of Weather.com. Our nephew Josh arrives tomorrow for a four-day visit and we’re trying to figure out what on earth we can do to entertain him if the weather is really as crappy as this. (I specifically call your attention to Friday, Saturday and Sunday.)
As you can see, we’re expecting a shitload of rain here starting on Friday, which is the same day Sam is taking Josh on the VIP Tour at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. The tour is actually a huge hoo-hah that includes visits to the players’ and cheerleaders’ locker rooms, the Cowboys Pro Shop, the owner’s box, a chance to run all over the field like maniacs, and so on. This is the hottest ticket in town right now because it looks like the Cowboys could be be headed to the Super Bowl this year. Their next game is January 15 vs. Green Bay here at home. Yee-haw!

I don’t know if you watched President Obama’s farewell address yesterday, but if you haven’t seen it please take a look at the video here on the White House website. He’s as inspirational today as he was eight years ago. I wish I could vote for him again. For ANYTHING.
In case you’re wondering where’s Sasha, she stayed behind in Washington because yesterday was a school night and she had a final exam today.

I have to load my pill organizer now for the week ahead and shoot some insulin. Thank you for reading this and please do your best to remember the Alamo, unworthy though it might be.
