Hot damn! A houseguest!

I can’t believe it’s already the end of December. While I sit here musing about the speedy passage of time I should probably mention that my nephew Josh, 21, is coming for a visit next  month — HOT DAMN! A HOUSEGUEST! — and we’re preparing Howdygram headquarters as follows.

CARPET CLEANING. We hired a doofus named Billy from Angie’s List and he’ll be here on January 5 to clean the carpet in our family room, hall, master bedroom and study. (The carpet in our living room and guest room is virtually spotless.)

A PACKED REFRIGERATOR. Josh’s mother (Sam’s sister Tammy) emailed a list of his favorites. We’ll be ready.

USEFUL AND DECORATIVE WHATNOTS. I ordered travel-size toothpaste and shampoo for the guest bath, a white amenity tray measuring 10¼" by 5¼" for the vanity plus adorable hammered steel candle dishes — they’re actually coasters — to hold LED pillar candles in the master bath. These items are pictured below for your possible interest. I’m so excited I could slap a cupcake!

Another day, another herd of FREE FONTS! This time I’ve got eight styles and weights from the “Basic Sans Narrow” collection, a cute comic strip font (“Lorem Ipsum”), and two pretty scripts ... one with a coordinating sans serif font and lots of fancy doodads. In case you’re wondering why I’ve cut down lately on new free fonts it’s because I’m getting pickier in my old age. I’ve got almost 4,000 fonts on my iMac; at this point I only get excited about fonts with interesting extras, hand-drawn illustrations, alternate characters, coordinating sets, and so on. (I’m an addict. I can’t help it.)

A week ago I offered you “Basic Sans Condensed.” This time I’ve got “Basic Sans Narrow,” which currently sells for $239 on if you’re dumb enough to pay real cash for it. I snag most of my free fonts from and Both websites are located in Viet Nam and the cyber police haven’t figured out how to stop them yet. In the meantime, download links appear below the graphic, as always, so you can add these fonts to your collection.

It’s 5 a.m. and I haven’t been to bed yet so maybe I should wrap this up and get some sleep. You have 90 seconds to make an alternate suggestion.

Time’s up. Thank you for reading this.
