My movie picks for the week include “Torch Song” starring Joan Crawford.

Because I can’t think of anything to write at the present time I’ll focus this post on some TCM viewing recommendations for the next few days.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 12
Happiness Ahead (1934) starring Dick Powell and Josephine Hutchinson
Torch Song (1953) starring Joan Crawford and Michael Wilding
Gypsy (1962) starring Rosalind Russell and Natalie Wood
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13
Guys and Dolls (1955) starring Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra
Where the Boys Are (1960) starring Yvette Mimieux and Connie Francis
Gigi (1958) starring Leslie Caron, Maurice Chevalier and Louis Jourdan
Woman of the Year (1942) starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn
Pillow Talk (1959) starring Doris Day and Rock Hudson
Young Tom Edison (1940) starring Mickey Rooney
The Philadelphia Story (1940) starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14 ... DICK POWELL DAY
The King’s Vacation (1933) starring Dick Powell and George Arliss
Twenty Million Sweethearts (1934) starring Dick Powell and Ginger Rogers
Stage Struck (1936) starring Dick Powell and Joan Blondell
Hearts Divided (1936) starring Dick Powell and Marion Davies
If you’ve never seen Joan Crawford in Torch Song, YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS MOVIE. The wardrobe, makeup, dialog and musical numbers are so insane and over-the-top — especially Joan in blackface — that the film has managed to achieve cult status. I also think you shouldn’t miss The King’s Vacation for the adorable story, Gypsy for Rosalind Russell’s spectacular performance and Hearts Divided because it stinks.

I’m pleased to announce that it’s 10:30 a.m. and time for my first nap of the day. Thank you.
